GPS Tulsa is all about helping you, a recent high school grad, grab hold of your unique purpose while making a big difference in Tulsa communities. GPS Tulsa is a semester long educational experience that meets in the afternoon and early evening once a week. You will serve the people of Tulsa, learn, grow, study, and ask hard questions of each other. You will be part of a community of peers all working to find your role in making the world a better place. You’ll get focus, and discover a purpose you were meant to fulfill. GPS Tulsa is designed as a complement to college, it also works for recent High School grads who are taking a year to figure out their next step. Even with our weekly days together, and a retreat getaway each semester, you will have plenty of time for school work and a job. If you want in, the application is right here.
GPS Tulsa is for:
Anyone who is a recent high school graduate can be in GPS Tulsa. GPS Tulsa is geared toward freshmen and sophomores in college, or people who are looking for something to do for a gap year before starting college. We built GPS Tulsa to work really well in conjunction with the Tulsa Achieves program at Tulsa Community College, but being in that program is not a requirement. If you want to find purpose and a direction for your future- we can help you do that. Lets work together!
The Schedule (more info):
GPS Tulsa gatherings will be every Tuesday school is in session from 1pm to 8pm. It’s like a work day (but much more fun!) that includes an afternoon of community service or team challenge, gathering around a meal together, discussing the day, studying specific topics, and being mentored by CQMissional staff. You still have the morning free to take classes or work.
Service (more info):
A big part of GPS Tulsa is spent serving Tulsa and making a difference in peoples’ lives. We will serve at John 3:16 Youth and Family Center working with their after school programs. These service hours will be more than enough to meet the Tulsa Achieves volunteer service requirement.
Finding My Way (more info):
We believe everyone has a unique role in this world, and discovering it can be one of the greatest things you will ever do. When you finish GPS Tulsa we want you to have a better understanding of yourself, your gifts, and your passions. You will have a better idea of what your unique role is in making the world a better place. Also, you will have a better understanding of the big story in which you play a critical role.
Curriculum (more info):
You will study some big issues and big ideas during GPS Tulsa. Your unique purpose, social justice, leadership, community, and creativity are just a few of the topics we will dive into.
Parents (more info):
We want parents to be involved in this process too! At our monthly “Parent Powwow” we will meet to talk about how to navigate the changing nature of the family when students leave home, and how to set the stage for their growth into the real world.
Retreats (more info):
As part of GPS Tulsa you will go on a retreat to set new goals, evaluate current relationships, and evaluate life direction. They are also fun! We will get to hang out, relax, and get away from everyday life. These valuable getaways are required in the program, and included in the cost. There is also an optional pilgrimage to the Rocky Mountains in May after our experience has wrapped up.
Cost (more info):
The investment is $895 for the semester. There are payment plans, scholarships, and discounts available, and you will also be able to raise support through tax deductible donations from people who want to invest in your future. Apply regardless if the cost is an issue to you. We can work with you to help find ways to make it possible. There is a detailed explanation about price on the cost page.
Location & Transportation:
Each GPS Tulsa meeting will start at our office and gathering spot at 1430 S. Quaker Ave (just North of Jason’s Deli on Cherry Street). We then move together to our service location, John 3:16 Youth and Family Center at 2027 North Cincinnati Avenue. After we finish the time there for the day we will head back to the CQMissional offices for our meal and “Finding Your Way.” You will be responsible for all of your own transportation.
